We created basic websites using pure HTML, and from there worked as a team of students in the final year to create a fully functioning website for a client. I was allocated the role of development lead, working with another student to create the website using Dreamweaver.
From this basic beginning, I then began to work on what I had learnt and self-taught myself more advanced Website Development and Design skills such as using CMS such as WordPress (gaining some experience using both Joomla and Drupal), as well as creating websites using HTML, CSS and some basic PHP.
I first came across website development during my degree in Business Information Systems (NTU, 2002 – 2006).
I’ve worked “on and off” in website development for the last 15 years – more recently developing my website with WordPress.
My skills include:
•
Updating and managing intranet & websites for various small companies in industries such as sports construction, holiday cottages, allotment associations, as well as updating and maintaining the European WebBoards for the company Xerox during my degree course industrial placement.
•
Setting up and creating WordPress websites – utilising any existing website data and any marketing text and images provided by the client.
•
Creating headers, icons, image galleries, contact forms and so on as well as ongoing site maintenance for clients.
•
Website Hosting and Management -Setting up initial domain name records, and setting up hosting accounts using cPanel, email account setups, FTP setups, as well as ongoing support and troubleshooting
Software
Software that I have experience with includes:
WordPress – this is the primary CMS that I used for website design and develpment
FileZilla – I used this for FTP to upload images and files
Adobe Illustrator – I used this to create leaflets before using GIMP
Macromedia Fireworks – I used this to create icons, buttons and headers before using GIMP
GIMP – I used this to create headers, buttons, icons and to edit images
cPanel – to setup hosting, install WordPress, setup email addresses
Drupal and Joomla – I’ve had some past experience using both CMS to update websites
Figma – I’ve only just started to use Figma so I don’t have much experience using it
Google Workspace – Gmail, Docs, Sheets etc for day to day tasks
MS Office – Word, Excel, Outlook etc for day to day tasks
